About Dag Avango and this website

I am Professor of History at the Division of Social Sciences, Luleå University of Technology and Co-director of Arctic Five. I have a PhD in History of Technology. My research mainly focuses on the history of industrial society, with a particular focus on the extractive industries and its legacies. A related research topic is cultural heritage. Much of my research has been focused on the polar regions – the Arctic and Antarctic.

My research is situated at the interface between archaeology and history, based on the theoretical assumption that material objects and environments play an active role in society and therefore should be considered in explanations of historical change, and following this the methodological approach of combining archival studies with archaeological fieldwork.

At this website i inform about ongoing and previous research projects, publications (including downloadable field work reports), conferences, field work and other activities.
